Emily Tsuge

My name is Emily Tsuge, and I am a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. I specialize in non-fiction directing and editing. Raised in Southern California with immigrant communities integrated into my childhood, I am passionate about telling stories about marginalized and underrepresented communities. I strive to create compelling, form-pushing nonfiction work that blends narrative style and experiments with documentary principles.

I have directed, produced, and edited various documentary films, including international stories based in Asia. My perspective is largely shaped by the quiet, mundane stories of real communities, real people. I have managed budgets ranging from 6k to 30k, and am looking to expand my skills into both fiction and nonfiction. I have edited films in different languages and overseen them from conception to delivery.  My film's core messages derive directly from my own experiences as a first-generation American, and the people who have impacted my life throughout adolescence; this makes my POV unique and universal all at once.
